AN INCOMPARABLE EXPERIENCE

Sunshine School aims to awaken each child’s thirst for knowledge while developing their whole personality.

Sunshine’s is a values-based education with a universal outlook. As well as learning academic and practical skills, students develop a deep love and sense of responsibility for local and global cultures, and for the bio-diversity of the planet.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

The school’s guiding philosophy is based on the educational ideas and concepts of ‘neo-humanism’ as given by P.R. Sarkar, a 20th-century visionary and social reformer. It is part of a growing network of Neo-humanist schools around the world.

“Educated are those who have learned much, remembered much and made use of their learning in practical life.”

P. R. Sarkar

WHY SUNSHINE SCHOOL

Sunshine School, or Honghien Souliya (ໂຮງຮຽນສຸລິຍາ) as it is known in Lao, is situated in the heart of Vientiane. It currently has early years classes from nursery to pre-school, primary school classes from grades 1 – 5, and four junior high school classes. Established in 1996 and officially licensed and registered with the Lao government, the school is a non-profit, non-denominational institution.

As well as the Lao curriculum subjects, English is taught daily, and Chinese weekly, in all the classes. Volunteers from all over the world come to share their experience and skills. This global exposure, and an effective language program, provide our students with powerful communication skills for their future success in a multilingual world.

INTEGRATED CURRICULUM

Sunshine’s learning approach focuses on developing critical and creative thinking through child-centered, integrated and imaginative learning. Project-based lessons guide Sunshine students to make connections between disciplines, knowledge and events, based on ethical principles of universal welfare.

CO-CURRICULAR

Co-curricular activities such as sports, music and dance, and arts and crafts, foster the holistic growth of the child. Showcased in seasonal performances and regular inter and intra school competitions, these activities allow for leadership training, character development and the learning of social-emotional competencies. They foster firm friendships through building team spirit and provide a strong sense of belonging to the school and community.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND

SOCIAL CONSCIOUSNESS

Sunshine’s environmental and social consciousness programs aim to awaken each child’s spiritual awareness of the inter-connectedness of all, and nurture a spirit of service to humanity and to nature. The school organic farm in Veunthaen Village hosts youth camps during which students contribute to the care of the village, the farm, our free playschool, and local ecosystems.

Sunshine is the only vegetarian school in Vientiane, providing healthy vegan lunches, and a shop with delicious vegetarian snacks and drinks served in environmentally friendly utensils.
